With the increasing number of Greyhounds being adopted by homes in the National Capital Region, the incidences of lost and missing Greyhounds are also increasing. Recently, a Search Team of concerned Greyhound Adoption Parents (GAP) got together and decided that there needs to be a program in place to locate and assist in the retrieval of Greyhounds that go astray. The Search Team decided on a procedure that would effectively use the various sources available: a web site dedicated to providing information on Greyhounds; information available from the local Adopt-A-Greyhound agency; including adoptive parents; veterinarians services and pet clinics; local rescue organizations, emergency services, transportation companies and communications services in the National Capital Region. The Search Team determined that, in order to be able to respond and successfully find and rescue lost greyhounds, it first needed sufficient information about each greyhound that could potentially be lost. With that information available, and with a quick-response procedure in place, the Find-A-Greyhound Project could be implemented, and advertised. This then is the first phase of a program to locate, retrieve and return Greyhounds that are lost or missing - A Registry of participating Greyhounds and Adoptive parents in the National Capital Region. The information requested below will be used to establish the database. From this database flyers will be generated for posting in neighbourhoods where greyhound(s) are reported lost or missing, assisting in its identification, and in making arrangements for its health and safety until the adopted parent can be contacted, and the Greyhound returned. A page with DEFINITIONS to what is called for on the registration form is also provided, as well as a Greyhound Official Colour Chart. It is important that each registration provide as detailed information as possible. The more information available in the initial few hours of a rescue could be the difference between a quick location and retrieval, or a possible long search that could be detrimental to the greyhound. The Find-A-Greyhound Project wishes to thank you for your interest and understanding, and for completing the registration form for each of your greyhounds. Please ensure that the information is always current. The "lost" flyer will benefit from the most current information, and can simply be printed directly from this web site and posted when needed.
